23,000 festival-goers attend sell-out Couleur Café first night

The 29th Couleur Café world and urban music festival opened in Brussels on Friday, near the Atomium. The organisersn have said the first day was a sell-out, with 23,000 people attending.

Female artists were very popular on Friday. Young performer Angèle already had a large audience to perform to when she opened the main "Red Stage". The 8,000 seat "Green Stage" hosted French duo Ibeyi. That stage then had to be shut for Belgian singer Selah Sue.

Rapper Damso had a full Red Stage area later on and Sicilian reggae artist Alborosie closed the stage for the evening.

The new smaller "Dub Forest" stage hosted only Belgian dub and reggae artists on Friday evening. It is located in a more wooded area of the site. It remained packed for most of Friday evening. The "Mamafoufou" dance stage was also very popular.

There were multiple performances across the Osseghem park festival site, including stilt-walkers and an artist who played with bubbles.

The three-day passes are sold out. Those with camping attached sold out just before Mid-June. There are 2,000 to 3,000 one-day passes left for Saturday. Organisers are expecting another sell-out for the festival's second day. There are still a few tickets left for Sunday.
