Louvain-la-Plage opens

The 12th edition of Louvain-la-Plage opened on Thursday and will run until 4 August in the centre of Louvain-la-Neuve.

The Grand-Place of Louvain-la-Neuve has been transformed into an urban beach with sand, palm trees, parasols, lounge chairs, toys and beach games — all free of charge.

For this edition, a second beach was added between the Grand Place and the Aula Magna, on the gentle slope of the Esplanade des Congrès, to welcome at least 50 more people.

In addition to games and toys, a bouncy castle, trampolines, “cuistax” (quadras), acrobranching and creative workshops are available to entertain the kids. Partnerships were also made with the Hergé and L Museums, which offer free visits, and with the house of sustainable development that will propose its own activities.

"Beyond the events planned for children, adults can also enjoy activities just for them: yoga, introduction to salsa, theater improvisation, etc. Or, they simply can relax in the sun or on a terrace.

Two beach bars are run by the organizers with the help of students, a necessary return to cover a large part of the expenses.

Music is also very present every Saturday night," the organizers said. Mega concerts are programmed for 12 and 26 July.
