Justin Bieber was Belgium’s most-streamed artist on Spotify in 2021, according to the music player’s Wrapped list which presents annual statistics for users of the streaming service.
Also in the top five for the country are Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran and the Belgian-Congolese rapper Damso in fifth place, reports De Standaard.
With high rankings for Ariana Grande, Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish, Belgium is one of the few European countries to have so many female artists in their top fifteen for 2021.
In addition to Damso, Belgian artists Lost Frequencies and Angèle earned a place in the top 50.
The year’s most popular songs were ‘Montero’ by Lil Nas X (first place), followed by Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Drivers license’ and ‘Friday’ by Rito in third. In the Netherlands, the song ‘Blijven slapen’ by Nelle and Maan took the crown.
For the world as a whole, reggaeton artist Bad Bunny from Puerto Rico was again the most streamed artist, as in 2020. Further down the list are Taylor Swift, BTS, Drake and Justin Bieber.
Last year’s most-streamed artist in Belgium was The Weekend.
