Walloon Minister-President Elio Di Rupo was admitted to hospital on Tuesday evening after a fall in the streets of Mons, his spokesman said on Wednesday.
His general health is good, but he will have to undergo an operation on his left knee next Monday, which has a fractured kneecap, he said.
“I would really like to thank the ambulance drivers and all the medical staff who have been looking after me since last night for their kindness, caring and professionalism,” Di Rupo added in a Facebook post.” A little forced rest, my schedule for the next few weeks will therefore be modified, but I will obviously continue to work from home to follow all the files on the table of the Walloon Government.”
Speaking on Twitter, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo wished Di Rupo “Courage and speedy recovery”
