Justice: Shortage of judges in Belgian courtrooms

"Courthouses across the country are experiencing a 12% percent shortage in judges” annouced  Christian Henry, the prosecutor in Mons during a press conference on Friday at the Brussels courthouse. On behalf of all attorneys, Christian Henry issued a warning to  the next federal government. He had hoped that quick solutions would be found for this shortage that can possibly have a negative effect on how Justice is served. "We think it is the right time now to alert public opinion to ensure that the right choices are made ??by the incoming Swedish coalition," said the Mons prosecutor.

"There is currently a 12% deficit in the different courthouses. In the Hainault courthouse, we have over a 20% deficit," he stated. "In Hainaut, there are currently twelve vacancies however, only two to three recruitments are planned for the coming weeks. We also did not anticipate that several other judges would be retiring “he added.

"The problem is that not enough vacancies are posted," Christian Henry also explained.
