According to the news agency Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie (VRT), on Thursday night an inmate at Louvain Prison took three other inmates hostage in his cell. This information was also confirmed by Louvain local police. The inmate’s demands have not yet been clearly established. Police say the man, armed with a knife, refused to leave his cell however he has not made any threats against his three hostages.
Negotiators and a special federal police unit were dispatched to the scene.
