On Wednesday, the Dinant Court sentenced a 38 year old man to 10 months in prison with a three year suspension. During the 2012 carnival in Anhée, the man, disguised as a ninja, hit someone in the head with his decorated sword. This happened at a costume party where everyone was wearing a disguise.
At the hearing on September 10th, he admitted to being in a fight but denied using his weapon. "My 15 year old godson came and got me because he had been beaten. I approached the group responsible for this fight and the situation escalated. I threw two punches but do not know who I hit. I never used the sword in the fight. I had left it on a table and when I came back it was gone, "explained the accused.
However, his version of events was contradicted by testimony from several people uninvolved in the incident. They said the accused barged in shouting "who touched my godson?" and then struck the victim in the back of the head. The criminal court of Dinant sentenced the man to 10 months in prison with a suspension as well as a fine of 600 euros.
