Nobel Economics - Jean Tirole one of the youngest doctors honoris causa of the ULB

On Monday, at the age of  61, Jean Tirole, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics for his "analysis of market power and regulation". Tirole received his  first scientific distinction from the ULB (Free University of Brussels) in 1989, said a spokesman of Brussels University on Monday. Bruno van Pottelsberghe, dean of the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management, notes that "one of the first awards honoring his scientific qualities was the title of Doctor Honoris Causa that UWB gave Tirole in 1989, through itsthen called Soco faculty. This makes him one of our Alumni, formerly of our university.  He is also a co-author and friend of  the former Dean Mathias Dewatripont,  who is currently deputy governor of the National Bank of Belgium. "

This title was given in recognition of clarity, quality and intensity of his work in industrial economics. "It's basic research, but concrete in terms of economic policy or strategic corporate behavior implications," stated Bruno van Pottelsberghe. "Jean Tirole is one of the youngest honorary Doctors of the ULB.  Thirty six is extremely young to get this award. Towards the end of his thesis he wrote a book on game theory which currently remains an international reference. He then received the highest scientific distinction in France. "The gold medal of the CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research), obtained in 2007.
