128 million euros donated to the Belgian NGOs in 2013, an increase of 9%

According to figures released Tuesday by the non-profit organization ACODEV, which is the federation for French and German NGOs working in development, Belgian NGOs altogether received nearly 128 million euros in donations in 2013, an increase of 9.56% (€ 13 million) compared to 2012. According to ACODEV "the climate disaster in the Philippines in late 2013 probably played a role.” After two years of decline, the volume of donations to NGOs is growing again. "These amounts are still below all donations received in 2010 and 2011, years in which we had to deal with major humanitarian disasters (Haiti and the drought in the Horn of Africa).  It is however above what was received in 2008 and 2009, which were years plagued with financial crisis,” stated ACODEV.

Sylvie Graffe of ACODEV stated that spending by Belgian NGOs in 2013 was mainly in countries of the Great Lakes region, including Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, and the Philippines, Sudan and several countries in West Africa where humanitarian organizations are present.

The results of the development cooperation sector are published annually on the site www.ong-livreouvert.be.

ACODEV and ngo-Federatie have 106 NGOs accredited by the Directorate General for Development Cooperation (DGDC), Belgium.
