New teachers' strike next Monday at Bracops-Lambert secondary school in Anderlecht

The CGSP, CSC and SLFP trade unions announced last Wednesday that a new united front teachers' strike would take place next Monday at the Bracops-Lambert middle school, in Anderlecht, said Eric Boonen, the Regional Secretary for Education-CGSP, as he left the local Joint Committee (Copaloc. A previous day of striking, followed by half the teaching staff, took place on September 25. Teachers complain of worsening working conditions and hold the head teacher responsible for the current climate. In response to these complaints, last June, the Anderlecht deputy burgomaster for Education, Fabrice Cumps, introduced an action plan, which was then detailed in September. This includes hiring an additional principal from October 1 and an individual coach to help the current head teacher deal with issues with staff. Procedures have also been implemented to overcome both the practical and administrative problems identified by teachers. "The Board of Education has made no new response to the Copaloc" said Eric Boonen. "The current measures are not sufficient. They’re just a helping hand. They simply validate the principal’s attitude. There needs to be a complete change in the way this school is managed." (Source: Belga)
