Sunday’s fire in a Drogenbos warehouse belonging to the marine leisure and diving club and store Globe Marine, was probably an arson attack. Early indications point to the fire starting in several locations at the site. On Thursday, the Hal Vilvorde public prosecutor’s office said the investigation is ongoing.
The fire started on Sunday morning at the warehouse of the nautical leisure and diving specialist store Globe Marine, in rue Bollinckx, between Drogenbos and Anderlecht. The building also housed gas canisters and air tanks as well as neoprene equipment. Between 40 and 50 firefighters from Brussels worked on site and reinforcements from Hal fire department were also called in.
The fire had been almost completely put out by Monday morning. There were no casualties, but damage to property was huge, as 3,000m2’s worth of diving equipment were destroyed. The warehouse roof completely collapsed.
