A million and a half euros for the running of the Ciac in Liège

The future International Centre of Art and Culture (Centre international d’art et culture (Ciac) under construction in the parc de la Boverie in Liège, will function with an annual budget of 1,5 million euros and funding from the association of Liège museums, the culture councilor Jean-Pierre Hupkens revealed on Monday at a local council meeting. The Ciac will be managed by an association made up of members of the Liège local council and will be headed by the town’s director of cultural service, while referring to a network of specialists. This association should be put together “soon”, according to Jean-Pierre Hupkens.

The town will take on the running and staff costs. The association will be given 1,5 million euros a year, for 10 years. Money from the association of Liège museums will be added to this.

The future museum will house permanent exhibitions from the musée des Beaux-Arts de Liège (Bal) but also temporary exhibitions.

The Ciac is being constructed in the parc de la Boverie, in Liège. The site needed 25 million euros, of which 40% was provided by the European fund Feder, 50% by the Walloon region, and 10% by the town.

To meet Feder’s requirements, the work must be completed in 2015 and the schedule respected.
