An individual arrested after a false bomb alert in Liège

A man of 44 was arrested on Thursday following a new bomb alert on Wednesday around 10.30pm on the Place Saint-Lambert in Liège.  A suspicious backpack was found near a fire hydrant in front of the old Palais de Justice. A security parameter was installed and the Place Saint-Lambert was inaccessible until 12.30am from Cadran. The rues Joffre and Léopold were also closed to traffic. The bomb squad was called to the scene and blew up the bag, which contained various objects including photos. The individual who placed the bag was arrested during the day by law enforcement officers, we learned from the Liège Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday afternoon.
