Jewish man stabbed in Antwerp

The incident took place in the Jewish quarter in Antwerp on Saturday morning, police confirm. The Jewish man, 31 years old and a resident of Antwerp, was walking at 9.20 am under a railway bridge when a passer-by passed him and then struck a knife in his neck. The victim collapsed while the attacker escaped from the location. A suspect had been apprehended on the basis of the description given but has since been released as he turned out not to be involved.

An investigation has been opened by the federal judicial police. They are not excluding any motive including the possibility of hate crime or terrorism attack.
