Brussels police did nothing about information that two of its officers received on the suspect in the attack on the Brussels Jewish museum, La Dernière Heure revealed on Thursday. Just after the videos were released by police, in which the suspect pulls out a folding Kalashnikov from his bag, an experienced police officer working in the Indicator service of the federal Brussels judiciary police received information from an informant who recognized the Kalashnikov that that had recently been seen in the area.
When he received this information, the investigator was with a superior (a commissioner), who asked him to immediately write a confidential report to send to the specialist services as soon as possible. The police officer took a long time to do it. The anti-terrorist section of the federal police did therefore not get the information.
The director of the federal judiciary police informed the Prosecutor. And the Brussels Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation.
While waiting for the results of the inquest, internal measures were taken. The investigator was move to another service while the director of the Indicator service of the federal Brussels judiciary police and his deputy had certain powers taken away.
