Cinema attendance falls in Belgium

Cinema attendance in Belgium fell by 4,1% in 2013. The biggest fall was in in Wallonia and Brussels, according to the figures from SPF Economie released on Wednesday. In total, 20,9 million visits to the cinema were recorded for 2013, a fall of 289 000. Flanders (- 108 000) fared better than Brussels (-576 000 and Wallonia (- 209 000).

The number of screenings increased by 0,3% to 629 419.The average number of viewers per screening was 33,1, 1,5 less than 2012.

The turnover also fell by 5,3 million to 145,9 million euros, a stable average of 6,99 per viewer. The fall was -8,7% in Wallonia and -5,7% in Brussels. For Flanders it went up 1%.

The number of cinemas with two screens is stable at 60, whereas those with one screen fell from 34 to 30, same as in 2011.
