Planning regulation infractions sanctioned with fines

Planning regulation infractions sanctioned with fines

A team of regional Brussels officials will fine (up to €25,000, €50,000 for professionals) property owners who are not within planning regulations, the Echo said on Friday. This is to ease the pressure on courts, who rarely sanction this kind of infraction anyway. Many Brussels buildings are not quite within the regulations, or were renovated when the rules were not quite as strict.

Planning regulation infractions could be the installation of PVC windows without permission, for example. It can also mean the installation of a terrace or veranda, or even a façade painted a colour that's not allowed.

The Brussels region says it prefers to compromise, and act to avoid infractions in the future.
