The Flemish Parliament is the most feminine European Parliament

Flanders has the most women in Parliament, a report from Jan Peumans said on Monday. Jan Peumans is the president of this very feminine Parliament. With 44,4% of female representatives, the Flemish Parliament just beats Sweden (43%), and Finland (42,5% ). The Flemish Parliament has 55 women for 124 seats since the May elections last year. After the first direct elections for this assembly in 1995, there were only 21.

The report shows a positive effect of a measure recently introduced, that says that the first two names at the top of an election list must be different sexes.

The Chamber has 39,3% women, the Walloon Parliament 42,7%, and the Brussels Assembly 41,6%.
