Nearly one in six trains (16,3%) was late by at least six minutes in October, according to figures by the railway network manager released on Tuesday. Punctuality reached 83,7%, 3,3% better than October 2013. If we take into account cancelled trains, it goes down to 82,4%, 3,1% better than last year.
The punctuality figures for the month of October are the worst for 2014. Infrabel attributes the delays to various events, such as people on the line and suicides. Traffic was also affected by staff strikes in La Louvière, Charleroi, and Liège, said the network manager.
The worst results for the major lines were for Herstal-Tournal (61,1% of trains on time), Brussels-Midi-Luxembourg (61,6%) and Ostende-Eupen (66,9%).
