Belgium is proportionately the European country with the most internet propaganda in favour of ISIS, La libre Belgique said on Wednesday. ISIS is the self-proclaimed Islamic State that is spreading fear throughout Iraq and Syria. A study by the University of Milan, done between the 1st of July and the 22nd of October, took into account more than 2 million messages in Arab on social networks, blogs and forums. They wanted to find out which country had the biggest number of messages in favour of ISIS sent from within its borders. 31% of messages in Arab sent from Belgium were in favour of the terrorist organization.

Among the countries studied, only Qatar and Pakistan do “better”. France is at 20%, Syria (7,6%) and Iraq (19,7%) are way behind.

The federal police at Ocam (Organe de coordination pour l’analyse de la menace, organ for the coordination of threat analysis) take the messages very seriously. “We remain vigilant and attentive”, says the police, who preferred not to say more.
