Death of Queen Fabiola – the Pope sends condolences to the King

Pope Francis has sent his sincere condolences to King Philippe by telegram, after the death of Queen Fabiola in Brussels on Friday. This information appeared on the Kerknet website on Saturday. “After learning of the death of Her Majesty Queen Fabiola, I send you and the whole royal family, as well as the Belgian government and people, my sincerest condolences. I pray to the Lord that he welcomes his loyal servant into his Kingdom of light and peace, and that he sends comfort and hope to those touched by her death”, the Pope wrote.

Queen Fabiola died on Friday at the age of 86. A national funeral will take place on the 12th of December at the Saints-Michel-et-Gudule cathedral, according to Kerknet. This was the day King Philippe and Queen Mathilde were originally supposed to visit the Pope for the first time. On Saturday, the palace said that all appearances by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde planned from the 6th of December to the 12th of December will be cancelled.
