One person has been taken hostage since Monday morning inside an apartment on Pilorihnstraat in Ghent. At this stage, there is no evidence that point to this being an act of terrorism, investigators report.
Investigators have confirmed that four armed men infiltrated an apartment on Monday morning and took a hostage.
"It appears that one person has been taken hostage. We would like to emphasize that there are no indications at this stage that there are any links to ISIS or the events taking place in Sydney, Australia", a spokesperson from the Flemish police authority stated.
