The E25 between Liège and Maastricht is the most dangerous motorway in Wallonia

With an average of 45 people killed per 100km, the E25 between Liège and Maastricht is the most dangerous motorway in Wallonia. The safest is the A602, which links the Lonçin junction to the E25 at Angleur. This is according to calculations by the Belgian Institute of Road Security (Institut Belge pour la Securité Routière, IBSR), which the Sudpresse Group referred to on Monday. The IBSR based their figures on 521 fatal accidents on Belgian motorways between 2009 and 2013. 247 were in Wallonia and 5 in Brussels. 1,501 people were killed.

The A54 (which links Charleroi to Nivelles) is, after the E25, the second most dangerous road in the south of the country. Next is the A604 (between Bierset and Seraing), then the E40.

The IBSR, which says accidents are “relatively well repartitioned”, also reveals that the E411 is, on the other hand, comparatively unaffected by accidents.

They also saw that there are twice as many fatal accidents of the West side of the ring road than on the East side.
