In 2014, 2,678 dogs were reported missing or stolen in Belgium, compared to 2,928 the year before. This is a fall of 8,5%, according to figures from Dog ID, formerly the Belgian Association of Canine Identification and Registering. These figures were shared by La Dernière Heure on Wednesday. For the first time since the 2000s, the number of missing dogs has done down compared to previous years. Every day, 7,3 dogs disappear in Belgium. Most of them were stolen. The most targeted breeds for 2014 were Chihuahuas, Border Collies and Jack Russell terriers.
According to Dog ID, there were 2,989,860 dogs registered in Belgium on the 1st of January 2015, a record.
For the first time, no “dangerous” breeds are among the top 10 most sold in 2014.
