The SNCB and TEC recently took measures to reinforce security on their respective networks. The Liège- Verviers TEC has decided to keep the amount of checks doubled. This was a temporary measure taken the day after law enforcement intervened against a possible jihadist cell in Verviers. This happened on the 15th of January. The SNCB called on railway workers to be vigilant, L’Echo wrote on Friday. According to the CGLSB, Liège-Verviers TEC agents will no longer work alone at night. The Union also wants a campaign to inform drivers.
In Brussels, the Stib also increased security on their network.
Together with the Organ for threat analysis coordination and Railway police, SNCB management has decided to increase the presence and vigilance of security staff and police in stations and trains.
