Belgian winner of Euromillions 21 million is from Walloon Brabant

The Belgian who won the EuroMillions 21 million euro jackpot on Tuesday January 27 is from the Walloon Brabant region, announced a Lottery spokesman on Monday. The winner, who made himself known to Lottery officials two days after the draw, was the only player to have selected the five correct numbers and two stars. This is the first time in 2015 that a Belgian has won the European lottery jackpot and the win makes him the ninth biggest Belgian winner of the game.

“The worker, aged under 35, from Walloon Brabant played EuroMillions twice a week from his bookshop, a habit that had only lasted a year-and-a-half before his win, apparently. For this draw he played two grids. The happy winner and his partner are looking forward to purchasing a house and a car, and also to doing lots of traveling,” the National Lottery statement reveals.

In 2014, two Belgians won the jackpot: one, a native of West Flanders who pocketed a cheque for 68 million euros in July, and the other from Charleroi who won 26 million euros in December.

On February 9th 2007, a Belgian won 100 million euros and is, to date, the biggest winner in the Kingdom.
