Foreign Affairs office recorded 374 Belgians died abroad in 2014

Last year, 374 Belgians died abroad, 22 more than in 2013, according to the latest figures from the Foreign Office. They were reported in La Dernière Heure. These are only the cases that were brought to the attention of Belgian Consulates and Embassies abroad. Most of them died in France: 50 cases in total, compared to 41 in 2013. Spain comes next, with 48 deaths in 2014, compared to 58 the year before. This is no doubt explained by the number of seniors who choose the two countries to make the most of their retirement and spend their last days in the sun.

Thailand comes third: 36 Belgians died there last year, exactly the same as in 2013. Germany, the Congo, Hungary, Morocco and Tunisia are next on the list.
