The number of car thefts has never been so low

The number of car thefts has dramatically fallen in a short time, Touring said on Wednesday, based on the recent statistics. The mobility organization thinks that new technology means thefts aren’t as easy. However, it warns motorists that thieves are using new systems to open cars without damaging them. In 2013, 10,861 cars were stolen, compared to 17,940 in 2015. Thefts from cars have also gone down (88,344 in 2005 compared to 66,701 in 2013). Bike thefts have also gone down (37,935 in 2005 compared to 34,042 in 2013).

Vehicle thefts mainly happen on Saturday nights, more precisely between 1am and 4am. On the other hand, there are less thefts on Monday’s between 7am and 6pm. Among the main items stolen are GPS, identity cards, car documents, bank or credit cards, driving licences, and money.
