The “Privacy Protection” Commission warns against using Clouds in hospitals

The Privacy Protection Commission has warned medical services about using “Cloud” services to store their patient’s medical files. It asks hospitals “to take into consideration the consequences of a third party getting access to the data”. The Privacy Protection Commission has said it is in favour of a memo given out by the former Health Minister Laurette Onkelinx (PS), which warned hospitals against using Cloud services. The memo says they “increase the risk of unwanted consultations”.

In their warning, the Commission “asks hospitals and other healthcare establishments who are thinking of adopting cloud computing” to “do a risk analysis to check the security and confidentiality repercussions of their patient’s personal data being put in a cloud”.
