King still supports Prince Laurent

In a Thursday interview given to La Dernière Heure and La Libre Belgique, Prince Laurent surprisingly criticised his father King Albert II, his uncle King Baudouin and his brother King Philippe. King Philippe nevertheless intends to continue supporting and working with him, the palace revealed and the King's plans haven't changed. The prince's comments came somewhat as a surprise. In an interview published on Thursday, he described his father and his father's entourage of having "sabotaged" his work. The prince also declared similar misgivings with regards to his brother King Philippe, during an interview with RTBF.

The palace regrets these statements at a time when it is making an effort to build strong relations with Prince Laurent. Under Albert II, his son Laurent was somewhat sidelined, said a source with a relationship with the palace. He now represents the king and is also Special Ambassador of the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation, part of the UN).
