Lack of food: 16,293 children helped, a record

More and more divorced parents struggle or refuse to pay maintenance to their children. According to the latest figures from Secal, the Service for those with insufficient food which is attached to the Finance SPF, there were 9,442 cases open on the 31st of March 2015. These concerned 16,293 children. This is a record high, the Sudpresse papers reported on Monday. In three months, the number of cases open at the Secal increased by 8%, and the number of children benefitting by 7%.

Since the 1st of January this year, the income of a parent benefiting has gone from 1,300 to 1,800 euros net. This means more people can receive help from Secal.
