Tihange1 working at 50% capacity following incident

Unit 1 of Tihange power station (Liege region) is working to only 50% capacity following an incident which happened on Monday morning, announced Electrabel. The incident took place in a nuclear-free zone of the station, and was linked to the opening of a circuit-breaker at the Elia high-voltage substation in Gramme, added the spokesperson for Electrabel. This stopped the turbine, and as a result, a security valve opened to release high pressure steam. When this happens, the noise is very loud and it was heard by local residents. Analyses are taking place, adds the power station operator, but the incident had no impact on workers or the environment. Tests are needed before the 962-MW capacity unit is completely operational, and they should start on Tuesday morning, added the Electrabel spokesperson.
