Seven Belgians in ten own a house, a figure unchanged for the last 10 years

In 10 years, the percentage of Belgians who own a house has remained relatively unchanged, Le Soir said on Monday. In 2004, the percentage of Belgian home-owners was 72.2%. Nearly 10 years later, in 2013, it was stable at 72.3%. More than half of home-owners still have a credit to pay back. Around 27% of Belgians pay rent. Two thirds of these pay an amount that conforms to the market price, and 8.2% get a reduced price or live rent-free.

The last census by the Economy SPF in 2011 showed 2.96 million residencies were occupied by home-owners.
