Marcinelle: a bloody corpse found in the courtyard of a school

The body of a woman was found in the courtyard of the communal Centre school in Marcinelle (Charleroi) at around 6am this morning. The victim fell from the platform of the neighbouring building, which is where she lived. The children were temporarily moved to a nearby school so they wouldn’t have to see. The bloody corpse of a woman was found in the playground of the communal Centre school in the rue Aurélien Thibaut in Marcinelle, the local Charleroi police say. It was found by a member of staff. Law enforcement services went to the scene, and with the agreement of the education council, stopped children going into the playground. They were sent to a nearby school.

According to the preliminary investigation, the victim fell nearly 10 metres from a platform that had been made into a terrace. She lived in the apartment in the building. A medical examiner was quickly dispatched to the scene to determine the exact cause of death. The early evidence points to an accident or suicide, but nothing has yet been ruled out. The investigation has been handed to the Charleroi federal judicial police.
