Disappearance in Bourcy: 250 inhabitants join search for Marie-José Thonus

No fewer than 250 people formed an additional search party on Tuesday to scour the Bourcy area (Bastogne) for 70-year-old Marie-José Thonus, missing since Saturday evening. On Monday, Benoît Lutgen, Bastogne alderman, announced the municipal emergency plan had been triggered.  Many inhabitants responded to Benoît Lutgen's Monday evening call for people to provide additional help to the search effort organised within the municipal emergency plan, said a Bastogne town hall spokesperson on Tuesday. The fire services, police, civil defence forces, as well as the Ministry of Defence and the Wildlife and Forestry Department were fully mobilised. Rescue dogs and specialist divers are also involved in the search. The search area is made up of forest and rough terrain and should have been entirely covered by late afternoon on Tuesday.

73-year-old Marie-José Thonus has not been seen or heard from since 10:30pm on Saturday, when she was last seen at her house in Bourcy. Mrs Thonus is slim and about 150cm tall with short grey hair. She is likely to be wearing pink pyjamas and blue slippers. She needs urgent medical attention and may appear confused.

If anyone has any information about her disappearance, please contact the police on freephone 088/30.300 or by emailing avisderecherche@police.belgium.eu.
