The Privacy Protection Commission takes Facebook to court

The Privacy Protection Commission is taking Facebook to court. The case will be handled on referral by the Brussels Court of First Instance on Thursday, the De Morgen site reported on Sunday. According to inquiries by the Commission, Facebook’s new conditions of use contain elements that do not respect Belgian and European legislation on privacy.

“The manner in which the Social Network site traces and manages its member’s data, as well as non-member’s data”, is an issue. “They even follow people who expressly ask not to be followed. Facebook knows what sites people go on without these people being aware. This does not respect legislation on privacy”, says Willem Debeuckelaere, president of the Commission.

The Commission’s spokesman could not be reached for comment on Sunday.
