Police will no longer guard the Royal Palace

Federal police could get more than a thousand officers back. They will no longer be assigned to duties that will soon not be among the police’s main jobs anymore. One of these jobs is guarding royal buildings. These include the Palace, castles and the royal family’s homes, L’Echo said on Wednesday. This is the result of a list drawn up of a group of experts, who were called in by the Home Affairs Minister, Jan Jambon (New Flemish Alliance). No longer guarding the royal family means federal police will have two hundred more men available for missions only they can do.

The Minister Jan Jambon is going through the list with the relevant organisations, and says decisions should be made in the next few months.
