A Belgian named best beer server in the world

A Belgian from Louvain was named best beer server in the world on Saturday evening. He won the Stella Artois World Draught Master 2015, which was held in Wimbledon. Jan Vandenplas, 24, beat Lori Wallace from New Zealand during the international final. Two of the best and fastest in the world battled it out during the final of the competition. This is the third time in a row that a Belgian was won the title, the organisers said. The jury unanimously choose Jan Vandenplas over the other exceptional candidates, “due to his artistic level, perfectionism, and perfect mastery of the nine stage service ritual”.

In total, 21 candidates took part in the tournament, which was held at Wimbledon. They showed how they master the nine stages of the service ritual. These include, among others, selecting the right size glass, opening the pump, tilting the glass at the right angle, adjusting the thickness of the head, and presenting the beer to the customer according to the rules.

Jan Vandenplas works in the catering business in Louvain, same as the former champions Majolein Geuens and Allaine Shaiko. They are also both Belgian.
