Saint-Georges: the 150 caravans pitched without authorisation leave the area

The 150 caravans belonging to a religious community left the land they were occupying on Sunday, a police source has revealed. The occupants had been living on communal land in Saint-Georges-sur-Meuse (Liège) for the past week, but had not asked permission before settling there. A week ago, 150 caravans were pitched on communal land in rue de la Vallée in Saint-Georges-sur-Meuse. The community did not have permission to pitch there. An emergency meeting was held on Monday. During negotiations, it was decided that members of the community would progressively leave the commune from the 29th of June. This was so the land would be clear and back to its initial state on the 5th of July. The caravans eventually left on Sunday, under the surveillance of Meuse-Hesbaye police.
