Bruges police court - Jordan Lukaku given fine and 12-month driving ban

20-year-old professional football player Jordan Lukaku was sentenced to a 2,880-euro fine and a 12-month driving ban for speeding and driving without a licence, by the police court in Bruges. The judge pointed out that the KV Oostende player might go to jail if he offends again.
Jordan Lukaku was caught by cameras on the E40 at 172, 162, and 170 km/h in December 2013, February 2014, and April 2014 yet he only passed his driving test in November 2014. For these offenses Romelu’s younger brother was tried in absentia in April. He appealed and the case was re-examined on Wednesday morning.

Jordan Lukaku’s attorney, Mr. Pascal Nelissen Grade, said “managers and clubs” were guilty, and argued that his client had not been taught the right set of values at home. “When he was 18 Anderlecht gave him a Mercedes, and he is now driving a Range Rover. This child makes more money than I do and does not know what to do with it,” he pointed out. The defence attorney asked for a suspended sentence, with conditions such as attending an awareness course and doing community service. The judge however maintained most of the first sentence, cancelling only the obligation to retake his driving test.
