Arrest of 2 Charleroi youths suspected of links to Iraq suicide attack

2 youths in their twenties from Charleroi were arrested mid-June on suspicion of being linked to a suicide attack in Iraq, in which a Belgian suicide bomber died, reported RTL-TVi on Friday. The federal prosecutor confirms that both men appeared before Charleroi Council Chamber on Monday and that the arrest warrant was confirmed. The investigation is led by 2 investigating judges in the Hainaut region. The suicide attack took place at a border checkpoint between Iraq and Jordan last April 25th. Three suicide bombers blew up several vehicles. Four people died in the attack which was claimed by Islamic State.

The federal prosecutor opened an investigation which led to the arrest of the 2 youths. They were charged with involvement with a terrorist group. They allegedly helped the Belgian suicide bomber involved in the attack.
