Abu Marija Al-Belgiki, a Belgian Islamic State fighter, has apparently been killed in Syria, according to several Twitter accounts linked to the organisation. The man, who can only be identified by his warrior name Abu Marija Al-Belgiki, condoned the attack on Charlie Hebdo at the beginning of the year. He wrote in both Dutch and English on social media.
The Islamic State fighter also mocked Belgian security services over the Internet. “They have been watching me since I was 14 and I slipped through Brussels Airport like a ghost”, he wrote. Several hundred Belgians have joined jihadists in Iraq and Syria.
