State Security reorganises its troops to fight terrorism

State security will reorganise its external services from the 1st of September, to concentrate on the threat of radicalism and terrorism, reports L’Echo and De Tijd. They also said 40 extra agents will be taken on.

State security’s “external services”, which collects information on the field, will be given two extra services that will deal with “radicalism” and “terrorism”. This recentralisation means others threats like sects and industrial espionage will go on the back-burner. There will no longer be teams specialised in industrial espionage, but all departments will deal with it at their level.

State security plans to have separate departments for counter-espionage. The increase in cyber-attacks has not been forgotten. State Security’s analysis services will not be affected by the restructuring.
