Molenbeek: tramway driver injured by passenger

A tramway driver on line 82 was physically attacked by an angry passenger in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean on Wednesday and had to be taken to hospital. He had been showered by shattered glass. The perpetrator was questioned by the police, revealed Stib (Brussels Public Transport Authorities) on Wednesday, confirming information published on the La Capitale press website.

The incident took place at the Mennekens station on Avenue Brigade Piron in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. A child getting on the 82 tramway was briefly stuck between closing doors. The doors reopened immediately after detecting the presence of the child thanks to a safety mechanism to that effect.

However, the adult who was with the child had a violent reaction and punched the driver’s window. The driver was showered by shattered glass, particularly his face and got first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital.
