Bart De Wever is ruining our country’s reputation and honour with his statements, claims Socialist Party president Elio Di Rupo. He spoke to La Libre Belgique on Saturday.
Elio Di Rupo says Bart De Wever’s statements on migrants “encourage those who already express racist feelings”.
“It is made even more serious and embarrassing by the fact that he is the president of a party which is in federal government. It would also be serious if his party were in the opposition, but Bart De Wever is engaging the government’s political responsibility”, says Elio Di Rupo.
The former Prime Minister has also criticised statements by the State Secretary for Asylum, Theo Francken, who is also a member of the New Flemish Alliance. “What I don’t like about Theo Francken is his statements seem to encourage racism. This may be to try and appeal to the extreme right”.
