Federal police forces arrested 352 illegal immigrants in 2 weeks. Other spot checks are scheduled. 60 to 100 police officers will be deployed 5 days a week, confirmed Home Secretary Jan Jambon to dailies Het Laatste Nieuws and De Morgen.
The police are monitoring not just borders but also routes used by traffickers, such as Thalys train stations and airports. 352 illegal immigrants and 2 smugglers were arrested in the past 2 weeks.
The illegal immigrants were fingerprinted and will be run through the police database. Depending on the results, they will either be referred to the Immigration Office or sent to an immigration detention centre.
