An investigation was opened into the death of a worker following a landslide at a building site in Uccle on Thursday, to determine the cause of accident. Another worker who was buried in the accident, was eventually pulled out of the trench which had swallowed him, and taken to Erasme Hospital, revealed the Brussels-East police force covering Uccle, Auderghem, Watermael-Boitsfort.
The event took place at a building site for a house refurbishment in Avenue des Tilleuls in Uccle at approximately 11:00am. Builders dug out a 2-meter deep trench with a small bulldozer to connect the house to the sewer system. There is as yet no indication as to why the trench collapsed, thus burying 2 workers, one of whom died immediately. Rue des Tilleuls in Uccle is closed to traffic.
