The equipment given to Belgian police has caused problems when they want to intervene during protests or other conflict situations. Law enforcement officers have a mishmash of masks, clothes, shields and clubs. These don’t provide adequate protection, the Police Committee said in a report that De Tijd saw.
The Police Committee added that the equipment order policy is wasteful. “Even big police teams, who have to handle dangerous events, don’t have enough adequate equipment for their staff”, says the control body. “Police teams buy more or less what they want”, and they sometimes have non necessary or inadequate equipment, while not enough of other important equipment, the Committee said.
