Hundreds of animals blessed for Saint-Hubert at Saint-Aubain cathedral in Namur

Hundreds of pets were blessed by Reverend Jean-Marie Huet, the head priest at Saint-Aubain cathedral, on Sunday morning. It was part of the Saint-Hubert festival, led by the disciples of Saint-Hubert of Namur.

“Like man, animals were created by God, and deserve our respect because of this. We bestow God’s blessing on them and their owners. God created the Earth, the animals, the sky, the sea. He saved the animals from the flood at the same time as Noah and his family. Animals were part of Christ’s redemption”, said priest Jean-Marie Huet. He then gave glory to God, who “created the animals who help man in his work or share his hobbies”, and who “eases his children’s solitude” through animals.

After the Saint-Hubert mess and the blessing of the bread, around a hundred horses, a hundred dogs, a ferret, a rat and a cat formed a queue on the cathedral’s piazza, on Saint-Hubert square, to receive a blessing from the head priest. The blessings lasted half an hour.
