Nineteen refugees found in refrigerated lorry in Hal’s Colruyt carpark

Nineteen refugees were found this Wednesday in a refrigerated lorry parked in the carpark of Colruyt distribution centre in Hal. The refrigerated truck was transporting mandarins imported from Spain. The refugees, all young men, were mostly from Syria, some from Iraq and one from Iran. They were taken to Hal police station.

The lorry driver, a Spaniard, was questioned and revealed his journey had started in Spain and that he had stopped over in northern France. An investigation is underway to determine whether the refugees boarded the lorry in France or Spain.
